Ahhh.... Spring
Finally I had a day off and though the clouds were looming dangerously, it did not rain. Neither the kwyjibo nor I felt like driving so we went east of Lake Coeur d'Alene and hiked the Mineral Ridge Trail. A short 3.3 mile trail that came with four rambuctious labs (3 chocolate, 1 black) that kept running to us and then back to their momma. It was pretty funny. The main trail is in great shape, the Wilson spur is a little more muddy so we didn't complete the addendum. Kwyjibo is trying to figure out how to do the PCT next year, so we spent much of the time weighing the merits of ultra-light versus being able to enjoy the walk.
Yesterday I had to work in the afternoon, so we took the bikes out in the morning and wheeled around Coeur d'Alene for awhile. Very nice and quiet on a Sunday morning. Took me some time to remember it was Palm Sunday and possibly the big reason for the slow moving neighborhoods. Everyone was in service!
Here's to what I hope is the first of many outdoor excursions for 2009.
